Writing - Snowy Stories
Created by Andrea Meyers Students will learn about telling a story through rich media and sequencing using the classic book, The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats. For their project, they will create an illustrated personal narrative with a winter theme. The technology they will use is Wixie, an online authoring application with audio recording capabilities. The students will illustrate their stories, and record themselves telling the story in Wixie. Standards CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.K.3 Use a combination of drawing, dictating, and writing to narrate a single event or several loosely linked events, tell about the events in the order in which they occurred, and provide a reaction to what happened. CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.K.6 With guidance and support from adults, use a variety of digital tools to produce and publish writing, including in collaboration with peers. Objectives

¿Qué tiempo hace?
Created by Ann Banegas Students will learn Spanish words for weather through video, gestures, and speaking practice. They will also respond to ¿Qué tiempo hace? using poems from The Magical Cycle of the Seasons, by Francisco X. Alarcón. For their culminating project, students will use Wixie on iPads to make a weather scene and name it in an audio recording. Math Weather WebQuest
Created by Lauren Speiser Student will learn about pictographs in a Math Weather WebQuest. They will learn about pictographs in a BrainPop Jr. video, gather weather information, and share their weather information in pictographs they create using Kidspiration. Summer Fun in the Library
Created by Leigh Barnes Students will learn to identify nonfiction and fiction writing using books with a summer theme. They will create a class story map, practice identifying seasonal activities in Bitsboard, and create a graphic organizer of summer activities in Popplet. Standards Massachusetts State Information Literacy Standards: 2.7 Web or map a topic based on prior knowledge and preliminary background information. 4.1 Distinguish fiction from nonfiction. 6.4 Work with other students to create and evaluate simple information products. 5.3 With assistance, present a final product using an appropriate format: report, poster, electronic program, or other medium. 8.7 Demonstrate comprehension of a story heard, read or viewed through verbal discussion and/or written responses or artwork. Let's Learn About Weather
Created by Nicole Shantillo Students will work individually and in groups to learn about weather symbols and how to prepare for the weather. They will create a flipchart using ActivInspire, where they will complete several tasks such as dressing a weather bear for specific weather conditions and matching weather words and symbols. After completing their flipchart, they will also post an example of their finished project onto a class VoiceThread to display their understanding of how our clothing changes depending on the weather. Standards MONTGOMERY COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS STANDARDS - EARTH AND SPACE SCIENCE 2.1.E.2 Describe that some events in nature have repeating patterns.
